Instructor Bio
Since arriving in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1997, Dan Piccolo has become one of the most prominent drummers in South East Michigan, performing with the likes of Nomo, Cloud Nine Music, His Name is Alive, Farouq Z. Bey, Saturday Looks Good to Me, Lowend, The Notice Co., and many others. Dan has performed extensively throughout the United States and also in Europe and Canada. In addition to this rigorous performance schedule Dan has maintained a substantial teaching schedule. In 2001 Dan completed his undergraduate degree in Percussion Performance, having focused on both solo and ensemble concert percussion. He studied with Michael Udow for four years, and during this time also had the privilege of working with Salvatore Rabbio, Ed Sarath and Michael Gould. In the summer of 2005, through a grant awarded from the University's International Institute, Dan traveled to India to study tabla with Kuber Nath Mishra, adding this unique style of drumming to his repertoire.

Open Drum Circle - Every Last Sunday of the Month, 4-5pm
Lead by our experienced percussionist Dan Piccolo, our community drum circle is a noisy and fun, family friendly event, where people come together in order share their spirit by entertaining rhythmically as a percussion ensemble. They empower each other in the act of celebrating community and life through rhythm and music. People of all levels of musical expertise come together and share their rhythmical spirit with whatever drums and percussion they bring to the event. Everyone who comes and participates has something to offer the circle, and anyone is welcome.
Cost: FREE, donations appreciated
Indian Music Appreciation, Every Last Sunday, 5:30-6:30pm
This workshop lead by Dan Piccolo, is an ear opening session of Indian influenced music and instruction. He will play traditional percussion instruments in classic Indian styles as well as instruct all those that attend in the unique drumming techniques used in that culture. This is a real treat to see a master of the art in action! Expand your repertoire or just come and enjoy the Indian sound.
